French Expression 21 " Sur place " - on the spot
The above expression is quite often used in French. The meaning is obvious . " on the spot". When certain things are to be done on the spot in question rather than in some other place , we use this term as in English . The following sentences illustrate the use of this phrase.
1. Le bibliothécaire me dit , " Vous ne pouvez pas emprunter ces documents. Au contraire, vous pouvez les consulter sur place.
The librarian tells me , " You can not borrow these documents. But you can consult them on the spot.
2.Si vous allez au bureau avec les documents nécessaires, vous recevrez votre carte d'identité sur place.
If you go to the office with necessary documents ,you will receive you identity card on the spot.
3. Un accident terrible a eu lieu sur la route nationale 5. Les villageois voisins se sont rendus sur place pour sauvetage des sinistrés.
A terrible accident took place on the national highway 5. The neighboring villagers reached the spot for rescue of the victims.
4. Sur place ou à emporter ?
To eat or take out ?
